Metering and network services since 2001
Every meter, every pole, in seven regions
From the shores of Lake Victoria to the hills of Kigezi and the plains of Karamoja, UEZMR installs, tests and maintains meters for more than 480,000 connections, and builds the low voltage network that carries power the last mile — to the home, the trading centre, the maize mill and the borehole pump.
About Us
Who we are
UEZMR is a privately held Ugandan company based in Kampala. We are an engineering services contractor: we test, install and maintain electricity meters, and we build low voltage networks. We are not a utility. We sell no electricity and we hold no distribution licence.
The company was founded on 26 March 2001 by four Ugandan engineers as a meter testing and repair workshop in Kampala. For the first decade we stayed small, with fewer than 250 members of staff, re-calibrating meters for trading centres and factories and wiring extensions for estates and institutions.
The spread of prepayment metering from 2019 changed our business. Industrial parks, sugar estates, hospitals, district water schemes and network operators began contracting out meter work at a scale that needed a company of our size. Today we work in seven regions under multi year service contracts, and we build our own field systems.
Our work is measured in small numbers: a meter that reads correctly in Nebbi, a service drop in Kalangala that survives the long rains, a fault cleared in Kabale before dark. Multiplied 480,000 times, those small numbers are the difference between a connection on paper and light in the house.
Mandate
What we are responsible for
We work under service contracts with network operators, industrial and agricultural estates, institutions and district water schemes. Scope, response times and penalties are set in each contract.
Metering services
Calibration, installation, replacement and periodic accuracy testing of single phase, three phase and bulk supply meters, and the upkeep of the meter asset register we keep for each client.
480,000 metersLow voltage reticulation
Design and construction of low voltage extensions below 415 V, service drops, pole replacement after storms, and the maintenance of distribution boards, earthing and the street lighting circuits of private estates and industrial parks.
4,200 km of lineLoss reduction
Detection of meter bypass and tampering, and reconciliation of energy delivered against energy billed at each distribution transformer covered by a contract, reported monthly to the client.

Organisational structure
The Board of Directors is appointed by the shareholder. The Company Secretary and the Head of Internal Audit report to the Board; the seven directorates report to the Chief Executive Officer.
Dashed lines indicate a reporting line to the Board rather than to management.

Where we work
Each regional office runs its own store, meter teams and reticulation crews, and reports to the Directorate of Regional Operations.

Technology
eZone — the meter data platform
eZone is the company's central platform for meter data, vending and field works. It was built in stages from 2019 and now covers every zone.
The platform reads interval data from the meters we service, keeps the meter asset register, dispatches field crews from our regional stores and produces the monthly energy balance for each distribution transformer under contract. Where a client asks for it, eZone hands those readings to the client's own billing system through a documented interface.
Because eZone holds meter and client data, the Board approved an information security improvement programme in 2025. Work in progress includes network segmentation between the office and the field environment, work towards certification against ISO/IEC 27001, and better monitoring of the platform. We are not certified today.
